What's new with the Emus

Hi Everyone,

It's been a little while since I've posted anything on here so let's get this up-to-date!

Skill Development Trainings:
One of our wombats/coaches has rented the tennis courts in Kinsmen Sports Centre every Wednesday night @ 7PM to help us sharpen up our technique for next season. This is a donation event so don't forget your twoonie along with your water and indoor shoes! Don't be shy, this is an perfect time to become familiar with the sport and ask any burning questions you have.

Awards Banquet:
We had our annual awards banquet this past friday (November 4th, 2011) where we recognized some outstanding players amongst our mens and women's clubs. Congrats to the following players:

Best and Fairest: Laura White
Best First Year Player: Charnelle Willis
Most Improved Player: Lindsay Rankin
Coaches Award: Chantal Spindler

Good going ladies! Looking forward to another season of play with all of you!

Stampede Cup

We had a great time in Calgary for Stampede cup on July 9. There were 4 mens teams, from Calgary, Edmonton, Kelowna, and Vancouver. And 2 womens team, from Calgary and Edmonton.
All it all it was a great tournament. Both the Wombats and the Emus played their hearts out.
The second half of the Emus game is when we really came out to play. Even though we are still chasing down our first official win, at the end of our game on Saturday, we were all winners. In reflecting after the game, Cam, our coach, was at a loss to pick best on field. And I know why. Everyone put their best foot forward and encouraged the best out of everyone else on the field. The shining stars of the game were:
Best on Field: Charnelle Willis. Impressive for her first game of footy! Glad to have you as part of the club!
First runner up: Hilary Perry. Though she may play in Calgary, we know she'll always be an Emu.
Second runner up: Laura White. Strong. Determined. Fierce.
Honourable mentions: Karyn Huxley and Carmen Flores, who tore it up during the second half.
Thank you to the Calgary Kookaburras and Kangaroos for hosting such a great day (and evening).
P.S. Those purple socks are HAWT!

Upcoming Events!

Before I dive into what's ahead for the Emus I want to recap that past few weeks!
The Emus were fantastic (with the help of some Calgary Kookaburras) during the Sylvan game. Good to know not even a little ran can dampen our spirits!

The Trivia Night was a great success!! Everyone absolutely loved it and can't wait to do it all again soon. Team Awesome walked away as champions with first place ribbons and a sweet prize too! Thanks to the Havin household for putting it all the effort to make our first Trivia Night a night to remember. Also like to thank all the Emus and Wombats along with their family and friends who came out and supported our clubs! I hope to see you all out again next year =)

Onto the newest update!
We will be heading down to Calgary this weekend (July 9th) for the annual. Both our women's and men's team will be competing for Cup and then partaking in celebratory events that evening. Be sure to book your accommodations ASAP as they fill up quickly, especially the University of Calgary dorms we stayed in last year. Feel free to check out the event posted on the Edmonton Emus group page on Facebook for further details.

Good Luck Emus and Wombats!

Edmonton Emus AGM

Last Thursday 10th Feb we held our AGM to elect a new board for the football club. We had a great turn out and many willing participants to help push the club forward. Lets keep the enthusiasm rolling and get ready for pre-season training. We're currently trying to organise a personal training session once a week during March for the Emus and Wombats. Watch this space for more information.
